Overreaction Season Is Back
SPEAKER_06Listen, I'm just gonna enjoy the Webby coming out party. That performance, it is just game one. If we get seven games of this stuff, how do you feel about playoff one, guys?
SPEAKER_01Who who matches up well together?
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay, see, and um San Antonio, it's it's because you just said the series was over.
SPEAKER_01So how did they match up well together?
SPEAKER_06I didn't say it's over. I said I won seven games. I didn't say it was over.
SPEAKER_01Sounded like it was college. Like it sounded like it was madness, like it was one and done. I didn't I didn't know it was a series. I never would have thought. Bri, is it is it a series or is it college?
SPEAKER_04Is it the rules?
SPEAKER_01Did the rules change? I think I might have I mean I've been traveling a lot lately. A lot of overreaction.
SPEAKER_02We're in enemy territory, Chris.
SPEAKER_01There's a lot of overreaction going on right now uh with that game. Wow, it's uh kind of amazing, but you know, that's how it is. That's the beauty of the playoffs. The beauty of the playoffs is the the overreaction, uh, which is uh just great. It's it's fun to see. It's really cool to see. It's uh it it's it's cute. It's really cute to see what they're doing. And uh I don't see it going thunder uh at all that thunder win this prior to that. I do not see this being so. This is Derek Thompson from Pick Em Pros. You can catch us on all podcast platforms, including YouTube and now 104.5 WCCG in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
SPEAKER_00Let's go pick 'em like a bro, go broke, go pick them roll.
Wembanyamaβs Double OT Statement
SPEAKER_03All right, welcome back to another episode of Team Points. This one's a thriller because it's in the NBA conference finals. We're gonna talk about Wemby. We're gonna talk about SGA getting a second MVP award. We got the Knicks vs. Cavaliers, the NBA offseason, and we're gonna talk about the NFL schedule. Excuse me. So let's get started. We're obviously gonna talk about Alien Wemby. He's absolutely insane, he's absolutely dominating. What is your team content?
SPEAKER_06So I remember on this podcast, right? The you know, the prophet had said, oh, maybe we should, maybe they should trade Wemby. You know, I don't know if he's scoring enough. You know, the 22 points he gave, this isn't good enough for Wemby, all this stuff. That he goes out and has one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. And again, this is listen, I am being prisoner of the moment. Let allow me to be fully prisoner of the moment. That shot he took, with mind you, 20 seconds to left on the shot clock to tie the game and send it to the second overtime, nails it like nothing happened, right? Clutch blocks, dunks, everything. Mind you, played the longest he's played in any game and didn't even look winded. He didn't look tired after the 50 minutes. And everybody was like, oh, the minutes restriction. Oh, how long can Wemby play? All this stuff proved everything wrong and had 40 and 24. I I just y'all, we we gotta call it what it is. This was like the arrival game for Wemby. And we'd already said, like, yes, like he's one of the best players in the world, yes, he was an MVP candidate, all this stuff. But this is a clear, like, first off, Shay hoisted the MVP last night, and it's we're gonna get to that next.
SPEAKER_01Back to back two times, put some respect on his name. No way back to back, two time MVP boxes back to back finals MVP. Put some respect on that man's name. Yes, just gloss over that. What's wrong with you?
SPEAKER_06No, no, no, there's respect, and then there's five and seventeen. There's there's Alex Caruso having to have 30, and Alex Caruso having to hit eight threes.
SPEAKER_03No, we have to come back to this. It's such a long time.
SPEAKER_06So we just listen. I'm just gonna enjoy the Webby coming out party because again, I was I wasn't here like, okay, like he's gonna be best in the world just yet. I was like, maybe it's another year, maybe listen, that performance, and it's just game one. If we get seven games of this, I'm sorry. So, as a Lakers fan, hey y'all, let's remember when we said trade lucid, yeah, let's blow it up, let's be bad for a little while. Cause those two teams, I'm not gonna lie, I don't know how the rest of the West can compete. I don't, I don't, is it's home and prayer because they match up so well together. And I would be remiss to mention Stefan Castle and Dylan Harper, two very young players who are really showing out. But Wemby, it was his coming out party. I'm really I'm just shocked. So, how do you feel about playoff Wemby?
SPEAKER_01Who who matches up well together?
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay. See, and um San Antonio, it's it's because you just said the series was over.
SPEAKER_01So, how do they match up well together?
SPEAKER_06I didn't say it's over. I said I want seven games. I didn't say it was over.
SPEAKER_01You said everything but that.
SPEAKER_06No, no, no, I'm never saying it's over.
SPEAKER_03I heard him say seven games. I said seven games. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I I it was sounding like it was college, like it sounded like it was one of madness, like it was one and done. I didn't I didn't know it was a series. I never would have thought. Bree, is it is it a series or is it college?
SPEAKER_04Did the rules did the rules change?
SPEAKER_01I think no, it's a series.
SPEAKER_04That's okay.
SPEAKER_01I might have bummed. I've been traveling a lot lately, so obviously it might have changed. I didn't know if rules changed or anything. Um, yeah, I saw double overtime game. Uh, I saw Wimby have a good game. Uh, he hit a logo three. I think that was the only three you hit in the game. Uh, but uh sorry. A lot of overreaction we're in enemy territory, Chris. There's a lot of overreaction going on right now, uh, with that game. Wow, it's uh kind of amazing. But you know, that's how it is. That's the beauty of the playoffs. The beauty, the beauty of the playoffs is the the overreaction, uh, which is uh just just right. It's it's fun to see. It's really cool to see. It's uh it's it's cute. It's really cute to see what they're doing. Um, I thought Castle had a, you know, uh Castle really throughout the playoffs, has been the MVP for the Spurs. Um, you know, he's the only guy that you really, really, really have to worry about uh with them. But uh yeah, it was a good game. Good game. It was very entertaining, entertaining for the fans. And uh, I I don't see it going seven uh at all. I think Thunder win this prior to that. I do not see this being a seven game
Thunder vs Spurs Reality Check
SPEAKER_01series. So yeah, very confident.
SPEAKER_06All right, we'll see. We'll see. All right, yeah, that's uh all right. All right, we just need a claim. Uh just okay. I just need this to get clapped. I just I'm ready. I'm ready. Uh oh oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Clipping, clear, you're gonna be gonna be so many. It's gonna be oh okay once again. Gonna just be hoisting the trouble. It's nothing you can do. You you got on the Pacers bandwagon late last year, okay. To try to get there's no there's nowhere to go, there's nowhere to run.
SPEAKER_05I'm not running.
SPEAKER_01I think that the stress room, just get your OKC hat, just get your OKC jersey. If you want to be a champion, you have to get you have to go to OKC. There's no other place. I'm sorry. There's just no other place to go. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_06Okay, so is Chad gonna play better? Because that's really gonna be the only thing that's gonna that's that's what we need. That that's what's needed because Chad has a shot. Yeah, it was doing his thing of the fourth.
SPEAKER_01Kobe Kobe shot, you know, I'm saying three for 20 in playoff games before it happens to the greats, you know. When you're that when you when you're that great and you have you know that many people keen on you, uh to you know, you know, prevent you from getting to your spots, you know, it happens sometimes, you know. But yeah, SGA, that's the last person we got to worry about for offense. Uh because he he just beat Wilt Chamberlain's record, you know. I mean, so he actually is an offensive threat where some guys aren't, but but it's okay. That's not that's okay. It's okay.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, let me tell you for real, yeah. All right, yeah, we are
SGAβs MVP And The Flopping Debate
SPEAKER_06all right. Well, it's nice to talk about SGA. MVP, yeah. Well, there's typically with this one, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Bree, you want to talk about your MVP, your back-to-back in MVP? You want some of this?
SPEAKER_03Okay, I will. Thank you. Basically, he is a great player, phenomenal, even, right? I mean, it's freaking SGA. He can make his shots all the time. But the one thing that doesn't make him an MVP, he flops so much that that doesn't deserve MVP. Yeah, he gets his numbers and everything, but as a player on the court, if he didn't do all that flopping, I think he would totally 1000% deserve it because he's a great player. But the flopping and how he acts on the court, that doesn't make him an MVP. His stats are that good because of how many free throws he shoots. It's insane. But he is a great player. I'm not gonna like knock him or anything, but I think him flopping, like a like, you know, like how LeBron started it, he's kind of like added that into like the generation, and now his whole team's flopping, and it's kind of just like it's too much. That's why America doesn't like OKC at all because they don't need a flop, they make their shots all the time. So it's like when we see them flopping, it's it's just disgusting at this point. It's annoying. We saw it with the Suns, we saw it with the Lakers, and it's just it's annoying. And this, I'm not even saying that because I'm a Suns fan. Like everyone noticed when they played this Lakers and the Suns. So to me, like, yeah, he's a great player. He's one of many few who got back-to-back MVP. Um, like over and but I don't want people to compare him to like other players because he's his own self, obviously, and he's insane. I'll say that. But I don't think he should have gotten an MVP. I think it should have been Wendy, honestly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. No, I mean, you gotta play, you you gotta, you know, you you can't be babied in in a regular season and get MVP. So he just didn't play enough minutes, you know. They went to minute restrict him and you know, take care of him and protect him. And he he's fragile, he's fragile, he's frail, you know, you gotta protect him and you know, make sure he's ready for the playoffs. And they did that. They they did that. It's not about that, but you can't you can't be babied in the regular season and then get mad and say you should have been MVP. You uh play play the minutes. If you played a few more minutes, you might have scored a little more, might have been able to do it, but he didn't get it. And you know, you know, the narrative is out there about SGA and you know the free throws and stuff. Well, last I checked, he's he doesn't lead the league in free throws. Uh he's not even second. You know, Luca leads the league in free throws. Uh there's another guy that's second. Uh a lot of those games against the Lakers. The person who took the most free throws was Austin Reeves. Uh nobody complains about Austin Reeves. It's just it's just you know, you know, with but when when you're great, when you're great, you get hated on.
SPEAKER_03You know, I don't hate on him. I just I see him flopping.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, not talking about you, but just in general, yeah. You know, when in general, in general, when you're great, you get hated on. Yeah, and then there's a narrative that comes into play, and then people hear that narrative, and then kind of everybody kind of repeats it, you know. So that's that's that's it, but that's just what you know comes with uh greatness, you know. So yeah, okay, Chris, help me out.
SPEAKER_06All right, listen. I ain't gonna say that Shay didn't deserve MVP, but it does kind of leave a bitter taste in your mouth when you have the moment of you on your home court. Now, again, we'll say fourth quarter, you know, fourth quarter that first overtime. We saw we saw Shay. We're not, but again, that's the thing. I'm happy that he won MVP. I'm happy that you know a guard is still dominating. But again, you saw what was happening because again, the other part of basketball is being able to play defense. And if you have a 7-5 dude who again can literally just clog the paint by himself and basically say, like, hey, you can't get to your mid-range and you can't get to your shot. Now, mind you, the the shot that they had to tie in the fourth quarter, where they literally were banking on Wemby not being there because they had Chad in that short quarter, like that that is great play. That's that's great coaching. Because again, but why are they doing that to scheme for Wemby's defense? So, again, I think that Shea deserved MVP, but we also have to acknowledge the fact that Wemby being an all-time great defender is a thing that helps this team in a different way, and that's the thing. I think that again, Wemby's offensive performance, it was great, and we we can move off of that. But I think that Shay, this game really needed to stand up because Wemby was coming out with that hate, and that's what he said all season. There is a disdain that he has for OKC, and that's why I respect, that's why I would need OKC to return that in kind. Because with this entire series, the Spurs were at the physical team last last night. OKC's been that physical team, and then they've gotten all the foul calls and all the stuff, right? With all the flops, and like even and then when they're on the defensive end, they don't get the calls. Now that you're getting physical the same way, like Shay, this has to be your series because this has to be you versus Webby. That's what I'm excited to see. So, Shay, and we were talking about this place in history with this chip. If you beat this Spurs team and then you win another chip, we're you're you're in higher conversations. I think that is when you could say fourth best shooting guard, fourth or third best shooting guard. That's what I think you could say. Not right now. This is going to be a dogfight, Derek. That's why that's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_03Yes, we got a preview with last night's gonna preview.
SPEAKER_01The goalpost will be moved. He'll be if he's if I he's gotta he's gotta beat, you know, LeBron and Michael Jordan in the final.
SPEAKER_06No, he don't. He do not. Oh, that's a tough one. He's going back to back this year versus this Spurs team. I'm not gonna lie, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03This first team is pretty crazy this year.
SPEAKER_01It's but you know, here's another thing, because um, you know, just coming up seeing Michael Jordan and stuff, you know, when whenever he would get his MVP, um, you know, before the Eastern Conference finals and whatnot, they would they they would often lose that game. It's a lot, it's it's similar to losing on ring ceremony night. You know, there's just a lot of emotion, a lot of things going on. It's just the accolades and celebrations. That's just part of what comes with success with that. So just you know, that's something that uh uh you know happens. So, you know, there's a lot. It was the big ceremony, all of that. You know, Shay's a he's he's a humble guy, so that's uh uh that that that's a lot of things.
SPEAKER_03No, they were really close. It would be different if it was like a blowout game, but they was back to back. That's why it was double over time.
SPEAKER_06It was again, I that's what I'm saying. I want to see Secondary Series, and I think it's Jay Shay
Knicks vs Cavs Predictions And X Factors
SPEAKER_06does this. We know this is the actual finals, so we'll we'll get to Knicks and Cavs next, but man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I mean, Knicks are Knicks are looking good, yeah. They'll they'll be a foridable opponent for sure. But you know, and and and the Spurs are so the Spurs are good. The Spurs are definitely formidable, umidable opponent for sure. My Knicks.
SPEAKER_06All right, all right. And now you're my next.
SPEAKER_01I'm just what they got, yeah, yeah. Me and Bree. Because see, we got we got ties ready. We have ties to Michigan, so we had we we we had a um family obligation to rep for the D. But you know, I'm saying now that they're out, you know, hey, we're repping Knicks.
SPEAKER_05Okay, got a new line for sure. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01So who are you? Uh are these your pacers this year? You going I'm going next.
SPEAKER_06Hey, hey, listen, I'm not I'm worried about where you're you're flip-flopping. I'm cool with the Knicks. I already said the flip. I'm worried about you flip-flopping, but um, I know what this series is gonna be.
SPEAKER_01Listen, Pistons were eliminated, so I'm not it's not flip-flopping if your team is eliminated, so it's all you know.
SPEAKER_06Hey teams eliminated.
SPEAKER_01I gotta go with the new guys. We're going with the Knicks, baby. Let's do it.
SPEAKER_06No, uh the Cavs are not my pacers. Um, because I don't know what it was in that Detroit series. It was mad and consistent. At least with the Knicks, I know what you're gonna get. Jalen Brunson's gonna show up, Carl Anthony Towns go do this thing, their bench is gonna be amazing. You don't know which Donovan Mitchell or James Harden are gonna get during the night. You and again, the reason why they were able to beat the Pistons was because Donovan Mitchell was actually passing the ball, but Donovan Mitchell's gonna be back playing the team like in the home state of New York. He's gonna want to show out an MSG. I don't think there's gonna be a lot of passing for Donovan Mitchell. So I think that it could be a very interesting series if they are going through if they're you relying on Jared Allen, Evan Mobley, and you if you can get Kat in foul trouble, but that's not happening this postseason because Kat's really locked in. So I'm excited to see what that's where I'm like the Knicks. I think again they have the deeper bench, and they have Jalen Brunson's just Jalen Brunson. Like it's he is one of those playoff performers where you can just pencil him in for a good a good 30 ball, and he's just gonna show up. So it's just all about the others showing up. And because I think the Knicks are a little bit deeper than the Cavs, that's why I had them winning the series. I think it could be five or six, honestly. And I will say offensively, that's my thing with how they can be OKCs offensively. Now, defensively, I don't know if Jalen Brunson's gonna get hunted. That's my concern with whatever with whoever they play out of the west. But I do think that the Knicks offense, they have enough firepower to really to really put some fear to the Spurs or the Thunder.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think the Knicks, I mean the Knicks are the second best team in the NBA right now.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, and you would say OK's first OKC's first.
SPEAKER_06Okay, never mind.
SPEAKER_01I mean, they're the 50 champion with the MVP first, and they got Scottie Pippen reincarnated. I mean, and Jay Dub. I mean, y'all did y'all see J Dub last night? Yeah, I mean, he's and and he's doing that like 20 pounds overweight because he can't hadn't been able to you know really get his cardio in from the hammy, and he's putting in work, he's putting in work Lucas style right now, you know what I mean? So hey man, I mean, we'll just have to see what happens, you know.
SPEAKER_03I mean, last night was a great game, so I just can't wait till can't wait for tomorrow. Or yeah, it's tomorrow.
SPEAKER_01Okay, they're playing every day. Everybody's playing every other day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, what day is it?
SPEAKER_01It's today, Tuesday.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, that's when you know you're big time when when you don't know what day it is. You just lose a track of it. That's when you know, yeah. That's when you know you didn't blow it up.
SPEAKER_03Almost, almost.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I love it, I love it. Yes, yes. So any, so we all we're all Knicks. Yeah, yeah, we're all there's there's I guess that means the calves will win.
SPEAKER_03With our luck, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, oh no, oh no.
SPEAKER_03Happens
Why Depth And Coaching Decide Series
SPEAKER_03every time.
SPEAKER_06No, Donald Mitchell, too. Happy man, you gotta cut that down. Both of these teams need another star. Like, I don't know who you get, but you gotta get some help for some. Oh no, there has to be massive trade for one of these teams because Rudy, Rudy, and Julius Randle did not show up. And you need a Julius, we know what Julius Randle has been his entire career in the playoffs. So I'm not surprised by that at all. Rudy Gobert, we never expected him to be great offensively, and then again, you're relying on Jaden McDaniels and Terren Shannon. And Dante DiVincenzo being hurt, that hurt the team as well. And and was playing on like what barely two knees, like that was not what you expected. But I do think when it comes to the Wolves and the Pistons, you can't have your star shoulder to load anymore. We're seeing what's happening with the Spurs and the Thunder. You have to have guys who could show up. You need to have that like apex dog star, yes. But you gotta be able to go seven, eight, nine, even ten deep in order to compete against teams like that. Because you still see what a Stefan Castle and a Dylan Harper can do without Wemby being on the floor. You still see um Champagne hitting all these clutch threes. You even see with OKC with AJ Mitchell having a great series versus the Lakers, Jalen Williams and Chet, and then like Jared McCain. Like, you see all these players that are like so shocking, and like you need a deeper team, and you need a coach who's going to literally rely. I would say honestly, like not having I would assume not playing like I would assume I'm not playing a lot. Terrence Shannon not playing a lot until like you needed him during the Spurs. He was like, You there's a lot of buttons that could have been pressed, and I feel like the Wolves didn't do that, and even with the Pistons, you just didn't have the other shooting outside of Cade. And Cade can't do everything. And Cade, Cade ran out of gas. And that was so unfortunate. I just was I was rooting for him to like to, you know, for them to win a seven. But Cade running out of gas, you need somebody to take that load off of him. Tobias Harris can't do it. Um, Duncan Robinson cannot do that. I'm sorry. Like, it's it's just not gonna work. So I don't know who you get, I don't know if they're in the Giannis sweep six or whatever, but they gotta get somebody who can offset the scoring load on their star players because Ant and Kate are very good, but they can't do it all.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so let me take each one. Uh Timberwolves. Yeah, they need a new coach. And I I thought you were gonna go there because you made a lot of criticisms about what they did and didn't do. So I thought you were gonna say it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no, no, no. I'm there too, because it's just you need a whole new culture over there because you know, you just relying on ant being special is that's not the scheme, and you would see in some games where they're they're they shoot the stupidest shots sometimes, and it's not like this thing is being generated or created. It's a lot of like isoball, like ant or Julius Cook, like let Ant or Julius Cook, and Julius wasn't doing anything, like that's not what's gonna work in this NBA. Like, yeah, clearly, when people give up the rock sometimes, just let Stefan Castle and Don Harper rock out. Like, we can't you can't rely on one solo star to ISO and just be like, oh, this is gonna solve all of our problems, even with the thunder, and even with the pistons, JV Vickerstaff, great coach, but I feel like he has a ceiling. It's like how we had with the Cavs, where it's like, oh, they're gonna be a good team, they're gonna play hard, they're gonna be great, but you need skilled players, like it's not, and you need to game play, you gotta adjust, and that's where I think again you see with Kenny Atkinson, we know what type of X's and O's guy Kenny Atkinson is, so that's why the Cavs were able to win the series. So coaching changes, roster changes a lot because you know who you're competing against now. With the Pistons, it's the Knicks and the Celtics. With the Knicks, Celtics in yeah, I would say the Sixers, but the Sixers their timeline. That's weird. But you're really competing against the Knicks and Celtics. With the Wolves, you are competing against the Spurs and Thunder, and you're clearly the third best team. You've got to get something, you gotta change your coaching, you gotta get some star players.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, with the Wolves, you know, it's um a lot of it's shot selection, so it's coaching. I mean, they've they've gotten scary enough. Their shot selection has gotten better over the years. Uh about four or five years ago, it was twice as bad. They've blown series, like they should have beat the prime jaw grizzlies back in the day. Like that team that they had back then could have gone to the Western Conference Finals. Yeah, um, you know, they've had you know teams with a lot of talent, um, and their shot selection has just killed them. So that's one of the biggest things that they have to do there. Um in Detroit, they gotta get Cade off of the point. Stop having him bring the ball up the court. It's just like the issue that KD had in Houston. Like, that's not, yeah. Can he dribble the ball? Can he pass the ball? Yes, but should he be bringing it up? No. Like he's gonna be gassed at the end of the game if you're playing him in freaking point guard, you know, run him off some screens and pin downs and let somebody else do that heavy lifting of bringing it up, and then that way you can't trap. That's why they're beating him down. And what's crazy is in game six, that's why the Pistons blew them out. Cade wasn't bringing the ball up in game six, they played the perfect game against them in game six. And what's so sad about game seven is if you really watched it, Duncan Robinson was hot. He wasn't missing any threes, he just didn't get many attempts. But every attempt that he put up was like all net, and they just couldn't get him the ball to get uh to get a shot off. So um, but you know, some of that with game seven was coaching. They were up there playing Isaiah Stewart uh minutes in that first half, and he can barely walk, you know. Uh so they needed to have LeVert in there, and then your other guy in there.
SPEAKER_06Um Jalen Duran, I just and also the Jalen Duran of it all. Man, what happened? What happened? All-star caliber player, and then we get that like it was I don't even man, I don't know what happened.
SPEAKER_01So, yeah, I mean, they the Pistons should have gotten to the Eastern Conference Finals, and the the the coaching blunders prevented that. Now, were they going beyond that? No, no, but um, they should have at least gotten to the Eastern Conference Finals and should have been playing the um the Knicks. I think the most important thing is they've got to get a really good point guard and get Cade off the point. If they do that, that'll make them a lot better.
NFL Schedule Anxiety And Rivalry Games
SPEAKER_03NFL, all right.
SPEAKER_06So as a Panthers fan, I ain't gonna lie, as soon as like October hits, I'm scared as heck. Oh no, listen, we are playing some dogs. We got the Eagles, Broncos, Packers, and Bucks in a four-week span. I am so sorry. When did we get that good? When was when did the league decide? First off, and then the week before, we played Detroit on Sunday night. We listen, don't text me during that game. I'm so sorry. I know what's gonna happen. Dan Campbell on Sunday night. Every single year, you see something crazy. It's just especially early in the season, Dan Campbell. What like yeah, I listen, I've never been more worried about a Panthers season after like a success, like since the Super Bowl, where we were like, oh, like we can go back. Like, no, I don't think we're going back. I think regression has to happen, right? But other games I'm really excited for are Bills, Rams, whatever Chiefs Bill's rematch happens. That's gonna be good again. Just to see if Mahomes, honestly, all the Mahomes when Mahomes comes back, that's what I'm ready to see. Because everybody, everybody got a little bit too big to the Josh Hall and Lamar of it all, of like, oh, like it's clear, mm-hmm. We gotta remember a guy who's still chasing ghosts and still has a legacy. Now we gotta see if the second half of the dynasty if that can actually happen. But I'm not gonna lie, it's that's what I'm excited for. I'm just excited to see Mahomes back. But as a Panthers fan, hey y'all, it's gonna be a rough ride. I think we're playing, we are playing some dogs this year. It's not, and mind you, last year we played good teams, it still got blown out, and now we gotta play those good teams, plus our division got better. So, you know, it is what it is.
SPEAKER_01Who do you play opening opening game?
SPEAKER_06Oh, we play Chicago. Okay, yeah. Opening game, we play Chicago, which you know, the miracle man, the miracle man in Ben Johnson in year two.
SPEAKER_01Like that's and and where where is that game?
SPEAKER_06I think it's here in Charlotte. I think it's actually in Charlotte.
SPEAKER_01Okay, all right, all right. So if uh so if the um Panthers win that game, then you gonna you're gonna be singing a different tune.
SPEAKER_06I'm not singing a different tune because I'm sitting in the middle of our schedule from October to November, man. I'm so serious. I'm listening. No, because one, we snuck in, like before we snuck into the playoffs, I was happy that we made it for the first seven, ten years. Great. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_06We snuck in, right? And now, now, right, we have to play the best teams of the NFL who all got better. It's not like these are teams that like didn't have great off seasons and didn't improve at all. So that's that's where I'm at. And then we're playing the AFC North and the NFC North, teams that have sent multiple teams to the playoffs, and are the black and blue divisions of the league. So, you know, these games are gonna be really physical. Plus, you know, the NFC South and the Saints got better. I'm not, I'm just let's let's let's chill. Let's let's let's rock out the season, y'all. You know, Rice, Rice has to be an MvP candidate in order uh for us to win like more than half of these games. And I don't know if he can be that. So we will see. We will see.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's gonna be interesting with uh with Bryce this year. It's gonna be a huge year, clearly. Um but uh Bree, how about you? You got your eyes on any anything this this year?
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm excited for all the rival games, like the Chiefs, Bravens, and then Lions Packers, of course, because we all remember that game, I think, of the 25 season or 26 season, excuse me. Man, what year is it? I don't even know. Um, obviously any game with the Bills because I still love Josh Allen. I think he's a great quarterback and run it too, which is what you want to see in a quarterback. He's very diverse. So, you know, I'm I'm I'm excited. Um, and I'm excited to see Fernando Mendoza play. I know it's for the Raiders, like boo, Raiders suck, but I think he's gonna turn that team around. Maybe not this year, obviously, because it's like they still have some building, I think they need to do, but I'm excited to see the future of that team. So I won't ever be a Raiders fan, obviously.
SPEAKER_06But I didn't get about Kyler versus the Lions. You get that twice a year. Twice this year. Kyler versus the Lions, how are you feeling about that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I know. Isn't it like October 10th or something? Yeah, yeah, it's here. I'm gonna go. Well, hopefully, I'm gonna go. But I mean, I'm pretty sure I will, but I'm excited to see you, you know. Kyler Murray, I is not on the Lions.
SPEAKER_06No, Kyler's he's on the he's on the um Vikings, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna say the Lions for some reason. So the Lions, excuse me, it's October 10th. Oh god, okay. Guys, my whole brain today is um, but I'm excited to see that. Obviously, I'll be wearing my Cardinal stuff. Um, I don't own anything of Kyler Murray, so you won't see me ripping that. But I'm excited to see how he plays like against the Cardinals because I feel like it's gonna be like he wants to obviously he's gonna beat the Cardinals. The Cardinals have such a tough schedule this year. Like, who gave the worst team in the NFL the worst schedule?
SPEAKER_06I mean, that works out though, because you know, draft one a lot of good quarterbacks to next year's draft free. You got eyes on the crown.
SPEAKER_03I've been saying it for two years now. If we go back to old clips, like you'll find me saying they need our way he plays, and then our team will be semi-rebuilt by then.
SPEAKER_05Um we got Marvin Harrison Jr.
SPEAKER_03Um, so for the Cardinals in the next few years, I think it'll look up, but I'm excited for those those games. I'm very excited.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, that would be we'll be good. It'll be
Streaming Fatigue And Final Picks
SPEAKER_01good. A lot of games. You got my Netflix games, uh, Wednesday games like every day of the week, it feels so it's gonna be a six days of the week.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I hate when they keep them on like 500 different platforms, though.
SPEAKER_06That is just yeah, stop that.
SPEAKER_03Like, why can't we just go back to like what cable was and it's all on one channel? Like, what the heck? I actually do free trials and then I forget to cancel them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, true. It might happen. Somebody might step up and buy them all, and then I'll be back to work.
SPEAKER_06So do what you gotta do again. Paramount, uh you you already own everything. Let's just run it back for the NFL, please. Because I need just make it easy, just make it easier.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, seriously, they need to.
SPEAKER_01Yep, yep. Well, uh all right. Well, yeah, we're ready for every everything here. We'll see how these um conference finals shake out. So right now it's 20 to 13. Nick's over the calves. Okay, two minutes left in the uh first quarter, so that's on its way to being a sweep. Um, you know, since uh game one sorry, pivotal.
SPEAKER_06I think uh I mean one's a bit of somebody drops 40 and 24. Man, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Like certain five men hit a logo three. We try to bit about it, man. All right, all right, I've seen it all.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, yeah, I mean, it's okay. But like I said, Castle's the Castle's definitely Castle's the engine of that team, man. Cat cat Castle's the real dog, he's the real dog on this team. Like he will really, he he's really bout it. You know what I'm saying? Like Wimby, Wimby's typical NBA tough, you know what I mean? Like, uh, you know, but Castle, Castle's one, one, one of them ones, you know. You you got those one, like I Isaiah Stewart is a real one, you know. You got a few real ones, but yeah, Wimby's kind of you know NBA tough.
SPEAKER_05All right, all right, we'll see.
SPEAKER_06We'll see. All right. Uh let's have this clip so the Spurs can uh man. Um uh we make it to the Spurs page, and this is uh I'm up for that for us, man. I'm hoping that for us. All right.
SPEAKER_01It's been a good season, though. I mean, like I said, they you know, they they got beyond the play in this year. So that was an accomplishment. I'd say any anything past the play-in was gravy. So this this was a gravy year for them. So I think you know getting getting past the play-in was huge. Nobody really expected that this year. I think next year, next year, if the Spurs can get back to the conference finals, I think that would be that would be success. So yeah, just just keep on keep on building. They're doing they're doing some good things. Probably organization, very well run. Great organization. All right, all right, all right.
SPEAKER_03Finally got some good words of wisdom.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, just something optimistic toward the end of the show. That was great. That was great. Yeah, all right.
SPEAKER_01All right, cool. Y'all ready to get on out and watch the sweep?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, let's watch this gentleman's sweep. I ain't gonna call it a full sweep. Cats gonna mess up one of these games. All right, but you know, let's have a great rest of the season, y'all. You know, I'm excited for the the rest of these conference finals and the NBA finals, whatever matchup. Hey, next cast, yeah. Let's see it. Let's see something good. All right.
SPEAKER_01All right, still good.
